Michael Hirst is Chairman of the Business Visits and Events Partnership which represents the leading trade and professional organisations government agencies and other significant influencers in the UK’s conference, meetings, exhibition, outdoor events, incentive travel, corporate hospitality, festivals, cultural, business, leisure and sporting events sectors.

He is Deputy Chairman of the UK Government’s Events Industry Board established to grow the value and volume of business events in Britain and represents the sector on the Tourism Industry Council.

He is also a Director of The Tourism Alliance the body comprising all the main tourism and hospitality trade associations in the United Kingdom.

He was appointed an OBE in the 2004 New Year Honours for his services to tourism in Britain. He was awarded the 2013 Joint Meetings Industry Council Unity Award, recognising individuals who have made a significant contribution to the advancement of the Meetings Industry and its level of professionalism and has been recipient of the “Personality of the Year” award made by the readers of Meetings & Incentive Travel for his work for Britain’s business tourism. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2008 International Hotel Investment Forum in Berlin.

In his business life, Michael Hirst is a consultant to CBRE Hotels, the world’s leading hotel real estate advisory firm. He also advises several hospitality companies in the UK and internationally and has acted as an Arbitrater for the International Court of Arbitration.

He is a director of CP Holdings Ltd, a diversified industrial and services group of companies and of Safestay plc, an operator of contemporary hostels. He was a board member of the Ladbroke Group Plc, and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hilton International.
